ONE STAR ORIGINS
In 1974, Converse launched a low-cut suede version of the Chuck Taylor All Star with a simple but impactful style change: a solitary star became the statement on the sneaker's lateral side. Reissued in the early '90s, the sneaker soon rose to prominence in alternative culture, embraced by self-reliant innovators of street and skate.
Converse are the all-american shoe brand that have maintained stamina through-out there existence, formed in 1908, Converse have been present in skateboarding every since influential skateboarder Matt Hensley don the chuck Taylor and influencing an entire generation of young skateboarders with his unique style and approach. More recently they have enjoyed increased popularity in skateboarding with Bill Strobecks production Cherry on behalf of Supreme which heavily featured modern styled skateboarders repping the Cons insignia creating a huge wave of (indirect) marketing for the company. Converse have created a lot of noise around the brand with localised campaigns like the 'Cons Project' which has seen physical skateboard installations housed in many cities around the world including in Peckham in London incorporating art, music and social media workshops which Parlour skate Store were lucky enough to be construct a feature for which can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUqsEzSF-Io
Converse have worked on numerous collaborations in the skateboard industry with a Converse x Polar Skate Co Collab to name one of the more popular. The team is a well-styled set of contemporary riders including Kenny Anderson, Louie Lopez, Eli Reed, Zered Basset, Sammy Baca, Mike anderson, Jake Johnson, Tom Remilliard, Jason Jesse, Rune Glifberg, Ben Raemers, don Nguyen, Sage Ellser, Sean Pablo & the formidable polar head honcho Pontus Alv.
With the ever-increasing popularity of Converse styles like the CONS Star Player and Cons CTAS Pro being more prevalent at skate spots globally they look set to take off.
